Sanders & Wallace
Hand-blown glass from North Yorkshire
The furnace at the King Street Workshops in Pateley Bridge fires 365 days a year whilst Andrew Sanders and David Wallace use traditional tools and techniques to design and make a range of distinctive glassware.
Many of the glasses are given names associated with local villages or landmarks such as the ‘Ripley’ or the ‘Beamsley’, suggesting a strong link with locality. It’s not hard to see how the dramatic and contrasting landscape of high fells, heather moorland, and gentle farmland might influence their work.
The pair have worked together for nearly 40 years, which is evident in the way they assist each other without the need for instruction, each knowing intuitively what the other requires. Despite this closeness, Sanders and Wallace retain a separate creative identity and each piece is inscribed underneath with the name of its designer.
